Bertie had a good birthday. He was really excited to blow out the candles.
It was wonderful to have my mom here. I wish I could see her more often. And Bertie just started warming up to her when she left. :-/
I feel like I look very round, all of a sudden. Also, I didn't recognize my breasts today. Do these changes happen overnight? I've gained about 6 lbs. I'm almost 21 weeks. I'm ready to start feeling her moving more. I get a few flutters, occasional hiccups, and sometimes I can feel her roll. But nothing really definitive yet. We got the results of the genetic screening in the mail today. Everything is perfect.
I've been trying to get a lot of stuff done before I'm too big to do it. I cleaned out the garage yesterday. I put 4 dining room chairs, a cat tree and a computer chair. (The cat tree, and the dining chairs were things we previously picked up from the curb). The cat didn't care for the tree. And I was going to refinish the chairs, but it had been 2 years, and they were untouched, so they had to go. All three items were gone by this afternoon! Woot. Today I mowed both lawns, and picked up all the dog poop. Bertie helped me throw some grass seeds on the lawns. I want to clear out some stuff from the middle room, do weeding in the flower beds and back yard, power wash the patio and front walk.
We've been trying to figure out rooming situations for when baby arrives. We may possibly try to put little girl in with Bertie (once she sleeps through the night). We may put her and keep her in the middle room (the half bedroom (you have to walk through it to get to the master)). The issue is that I would still like a space for my mom to sleep when she comes to visit. One solution is a roll away bed. It wouldn't be too expensive, and she can either room with Bertie or baby. We have an extra full bed, which we may give to Bertie (Since he needs to vacate the crib before baby). (I don't want to wait too much longer, since I don't want him to feel replaced). Another solution is a bunk bed. My dad has a bunk bed (my old bed, actually) that we could put in Bertram's room. Then my mom can sleep in there when she visits (or we can put both kids in there). Another idea is a fold out couch. The issue with that is Zelda. She always hangs out on the couch, and I don't want the guest bed to smell like dog. My dad also has a twin bed we could take. Maybe we could but the twin in the baby's room. We have a lot of options, but we haven't decided anything. I just want to get it squared away, I don't like being in limbo.
I need to do Bertram's interview, now that he's three.
I can't think of much else at the moment.
Just the life of any other Rachel

Updates
An update from last time:
- Laundry I'm still working through this, there was a lot
- Groceries Nope. Didn't get there yet. I'm going to go tomorrow.
- Exercise I didn't do specific exercises, but I did do specific walking. I feel ok about that
- Dishes Done!
- Bills Organized and ready to be paid
- General cleaning I did quite a bit, but there is always more
- Find a birthday gift for my mom, and mail her cards Nope. I got part of a gift today, but the cards are still sitting on the counter.
Now, of course, we're on to other things. Like Bertie's first illness. Fortunately, it's just a cold. Unfortunately, babies don't know how to blow noses, and don't like the bulb syringe. So he's been really fussy. He spent most of the night sleeping with me. And he hasn't napped much today either. He's snotty and stuffy. (When typing snotty into my phone, it auto corrected to "shitty").
Bertie also tried squash for the first time today. I thought it tasted gross. But he liked it. So far, we're six for six!

Since Aaron worked so much last weekend, (and quite a few nights this week) he worked a short day today, which was great because dealing with a clingy, whiny, snotty, stuffy baby is a little wearing. And Aaron took Bertie with him to a meeting tonight (yay!) which is why I have time to type this blog.
I have having a boob problem. I'm not sure what it is, exactly. At first I thought it was a plugged duct, but it's not. Then I thought it might be thrush, but it's now that either. It hurts so much when he nurses on the left side. And the nipple hurts randomly when he's not nursing. I talked to the OBGyn, and the lactation consultant. They suggested I try the lactation support group on Thursday morning, so we'll give it a shot.
We got a preview of Bertram's 6-month photo shoot.
Finally asleep today (while at Target)

A near perfect day
Today has been pretty close to perfect; with the exception that I've hardly seen Aaron.
Bertie and I got up at 9am. We hung out with Aaron for about 45 minutes. Aaron left for work, and Bertie went back to sleep. I got some chores done. When Bertie woke up we did some grocery shopping. I got lunch at Jack in the Box on the way home. (Usually, by the time I'm hungry, Bertie will be endlessly fussy, so I eat when I get the chance). I ate in the car in the parking lot, since I figured he'd wake up once we got in the house. But, once we got home I set his carseat on the floor, and he stayed asleep for 2.5 hours! So I got more chores done. When Bertie woke up we were going to go for our walk, but the jogging stroller (which I was ready to tryout) had a flat tire. I got the bike pump out, but it wouldn't inflate. I took the wheel apart, and the inner tube was split. I loaded baby into the car, and we went to the local bike shop. They got me fixed up. Baby and I went for a walk; we didn't jog much, I was pretty tired. I ate dinner, then left Bertie with Aaron's folks so I could walk the dogs and shower. After that I fed Bertie, he fell asleep before 8:30, so I put him to bed.
Things I did today:
changed and laundered all the linens
washed all clothes except diapers (I did those yesterday) and folded everything
Swept
Cleaned the sink
gave the baby a bath
Cleaned Bertie's closet
Found new homes for some of Aaron's things (places around the house, since a lot was still in Bertram's room)
Bought groceries
Bought new underwear for Aaron
Took out all the garbage and recycling
Exercised
Scooped the cat boxes
It was a good day. I only wish Aaron were around, and Bertie were awake a little more. He was very sleepy today. He must be growing.

Pregnancy, Yoie, Cleaning...
I'm still feeling pretty well, physically. I'm still sleeping pretty well. I'm peeing a lot, more during the day than at night. Baby is kicking a lot, it's neat to watch my belly thump around. My mood has been getting a lot worse in the last couple weeks. I sent an email to my shrink tonight, to keep him in the loop and see if he has any suggestions. I feel bad for Aaron, I know it's been really hard on him to deal with me. I've had a couple crying/sobbing jags in the last week. In the last couple days, my sciatica is really starting to bother me. I think I need to start doing more yoga, or stretches. My shower is in 3 weeks! Yay!
Aaron Yoie back to the vet a couple days ago. She had high levels of protein in her blood, and some crystals in her urine. (My FiL likes to feed her cat treats, so that has to stop). The vet did x-rays to make sure there were no kidney stones. Fortunately, there weren't, because then she'd need surgery. She has special food to eat for the next three weeks, and finish her amox, then she should be good. She seem like she's feeling better. More like her old self.
I had a huge list of chores that I wanted to get done this weekend. I actually did pretty well, all the big still got done. We got the Christmas stuff put away, cleaned out the fridge, went grocery shopping, did laundry, swept, put miscellaneous stuff away, and Aaron did major cleaning in the bathrooms. Plus I got most of the junk put away from the guest room, to get it ready for my mom's visit. We need to get Mojo's room more ready. Lots to do in there.
We did a mini date night tonight. We went to Chipotle for dinner, then across the street to Yogurtland for dessert. Then we put gas in the car, and ran to Target for a couple things.

What I did today.
- Got up "early" (as opposed to sleeping in) at 7, to go to the flea market. I think it was about 40 degrees when we got there.
- We wandered around for about 90 minutes. It was emptier than usual, due to the cold weather, and that it'd rained last night. I found a couple books for Mojo, but that was all we got.
- On the way home we got gas, and donuts.
- We laid down for a few minutes when we got home. Actually Aaron laid down for a few minutes, I ended up napping for 2.5 hours. He left to go to a memorial while I was asleep.
- When I got up, I found that Fiona had made a line of poop from the kitchen into the living room. I cleaned that up, and decided that it was about time to deep clean the kitchen.
- They finished taking out the tree while all that was going on. The giant camphor tree is no more. The stump got all the way ground, hopefully we'll have a driveway again soon.
- In the kitchen, I put everything away, did all the dishes, scrubbed the counters, and stove top. I took the recycling and garbage out, and shredded all our papers. I swept the floor. Then I got a bucket and Lysol and proceeded to scrub the floor on my hands and knees (I did the baseboards too). Aaron came home while I was scrubbing, so he helped too. I also ran the laundry while doing all the cleaning.
- After that we worked on Aaron's quilt. We'll he did most of it, I assisted when necessary. The top was sewn together. He added the patches he wanted (it's a scouting quilt). Then we pin basted it on the (newly cleaned) kitchen floor. We went back and forth on whether to tie the quilt, or stitch in the ditch. Tying is a lot easier, but doesn't look as nice. Stitch in the ditch is a lot more difficult, but looks a lot nicer. We ended up using the stitch in the ditch. We needed to go to ask grandma for some advice on how to minimize pulls on the back of the quilt. There were a few small mishaps, but it looks really great! All that's left is the binding, and it's all done.
- While we were doing that, Julius peed in the dog bed, which was about 5 feet away from us. I guess Aaron had gotten a little behind in cleaning the boxes, but man, that cat is a jerk.
- I've walked 15,100 steps today. :-D
- We watched National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. Now we're watching Star Trek Into Darkness.
- I wanted to change the bed linens, and put the laundry away, but I think those things will have to wait til tomorrow.
