The January

I made some big changes for January.  Not resolutions, per say, but changes for a month, with re-evaluation at the end.

No soda
After 2 or 3 days the caffeine headaches went away.  After 4 or 5 days the cravings went away.  Occasionally, when things were stressful, I wanted a fresh, icy Diet Coke.  But I didn't cave.  Today is February 1st.  I didn't run right out and get one, or have one at all.  I think it will be a rare treat.  I like not needing the caffeine.  I may get a caffeine-free one, but that will probably be it.  We'll see.  I'm not dedicated to sticking to "no soda" anymore.

No sugar
This was way harder.  WAY harder.  I knew I had a sweet tooth, but I'm pretty sure I have a straight out sugar addiction.  The craving, and jonesing didn't stop until day 20!  I put myself to the test around day 25, and made a batch of cookies for Aaron to take to a meeting.  I didn't eat any, and more amazingly, I didn't have any of the dough (which may be my favourite thing).  I didn't lick my finger when I accidentally touched the beater.
Now, here we are, February 1st.  I was thinking I'd have one sweet treat a week.  But I'm a bit dubious.  If I really am an addict (which seems like a good possibility), then introducing sugar again is like playing with fire.  So, for now, I'm going to keep things the same.  But I am going to have a little piece of cake on Bertie's birthday.  Maybe sugar will just be for special occasions...  Time will tell.

No Meat
I sort of failed this.  I'm going back to vegetarian, but I had some shrimp.  So I think I'll be mainly veg, and flex to pesce when the spirit moves me.

Yoga
I did yoga everyday in January.  I LOVED it.  I'm not fit, and I'm not super flexible.  But there is something about doing yoga regularly that really makes you appreciate and love your body.  I'm so grateful for the things I can do, I'm not going to fixate on what I can't.  Plus, you see improvements in strength and flexibility so quickly.  I'm going to mix it up for February.  2 days of cardio, 2 days of strength and 2 days of yoga.  And Sunday... well, I'm not sure yet, a rest day?  More yoga?  The real challenge will be when my mom comes to visit.  Mom, make sure I exercise!

2015

We stayed up til midnight to ring in the new year.  Bertie didn't sleep well, so the rest of us didn't either.  We didn't get out of bed until after 10.  I can't remember the last time that happened (certainly before Bertram was born)!  We went to Aaron's folks house for potica bread.  We did some chores, Bertie napped.  Then we went to Target to spend gift cards.  I got a few cosmetics, deep conditioner, and a pair of running tights.  We were carrying things in, so we set Bertie on his play mat.  When we came back a minute later, he was on the other side of the mat.  So he possibly crawled, and we missed it.  :-/  We wanted to nap, but Bertie had other ideas.  We all got up.  Aaron fed baby, while I made dinner.  I waved at Bertie while he was eating, and he waved back!  That's the first time he's done that!  I made a really good dinner, which is kind of rare for me.  We went for our nightly dog walk, and Bertie fell asleep before I'd finished singing to him.

I've been thinking of resolutions for this year.
Getting in shape, of course.  I need to stop letting depression running the show.  I'm going to run, I'm going to hike, I'm going to start the new Bikini Body Mommy workout on Monday.
Eating better/cleaner. I want to cook more, and use prepared foods less.  We also want to eat a lot less meat.  I think I'm going to start cooking all vegetarian at home.   (Except we have a gift card for Omaha Steaks...).  And less soda.
Sex.  (Probably TMI) Ever since Bertie came along our sex life is almost non-existent (part of it is having a baby, and part is depression).  So I'm setting a goal of 2-3 times a week.
Putting in effort.  I usually don't put much effort into my look.  I'm going to try to gussy up a little.  I little make-up, do my hair slightly.  Try to dress cute-ish.

Wish me luck!

Ending the year

The sleep training has been going surprisingly well.  It's been very easy, actually.  After the first night, where I didn't sleep much, they've all been good.  I fall asleep between 10:30 and 11.  And set the alarm everyday for 7am.  That's really the hard part.  I want to stay in bed and keep sleeping.  But I know if I do that, I won't sleep the next night.  The only trouble I had was yesterday.  I took a Benedryl, because I had a sore throat.  It knocked me out hard, and I could not wake up the next day.  I think I slept til 9.  But it (fortunately) didn't ruin anything.  And I've been Ambien free for almost 2 weeks!

My stomach has been acting up off and on..  Nothing like before, but still not great.  I'm beginning to think my Crohns might be chronic.  Boo.  But it is, what it is.  Starting on January 1st, I'm going on a sugar fast. Probably just for a week, maybe longer.  I've just been eating way too much junk.  And I don't moderate well, so it's just easier to say none.

We don't have any New Years plans.  We got invited to a couple of parties, but I'm not much of a party person.  Plus driving on New Years makes me nervous.

All of the animals are doing well.  They get a little closer to each other everyday.  I hope the catties might be snuggle friends someday.

I was thinking back on my resolutions for 2011.  Most of them didn't happen, but mostly due to my getting sick, not being lazy.  I wanted to run a half marathon.  I got really good with running, til I got sick.  I wanted to have more sex, again, good til I got sick.  I wanted to get pregnant: see previous.  I wanted to go to the temple 12 times, I think we went 10.  We did read scriptures together everyday.  So that resolution got kept.  Yay!

For 2012 these are my resolutions:
  • Personal scripture study daily (along with "family" scripture study)
  • Get back into running (as far as Crohns will allow)
  • Eat less junk, and more natural foods
  • Walk the doggies daily
  • Start the adoption process (assuming Aaron has a job by the end of the year)
  • Cook something new once a month
  • Read at least 50 books (keep track with GoodReads)

That's all I can think of for the time being.
